How do Toy Story & Toy Story 2 fit in the Pixar Theory?
What is Toy Story & Toy Story about?
In 1995, Toy Story introduced us to a world with talking toys that
think and act differently when humans aren’t around. Here is a quick overview
of what Toy Story is about. In the movie we meet Andy Davis, a young boy whose
favourite toy, Woody, gets jealous of Andy’s new tow, Buzz Lightyear. The two
characters represent the struggle against the old west and space. The plot for
both Toy Story movies is pretty simple and straightforward: the rival toys get
lost, resolve their differences and get back to Andy before it’s too late. Toy
Story takes place in 1995 and the sequel in around 1996.
You are probably wondering how these two movies fit in the timeline. As far as we know toys don’t come to life in the real world but where did they get their powers from and why do they have it? All a toy needs to do is make its owner happy, right? So why do they play checkers and joke around while they are off duty? It’s simple. Humans are batteries. You heard right, humans are the source of power that makes toys come to life. Toys were designed to be powered by humans, long before Toy Story. A corporation used the rising trends in consumerism to spread machine influence across the world by creating toys that generate energy from humans. That corporation is Buy n Large (BnL). BnL was mentioned briefly in the Incredibles. The machines and toys get their energy from humans, like the Omnidroid and the toys in Toy Story. Toys are powered by human love and kid’s imagination. However, the reason they can actually talk and how they display human characteristics, is because when Syndrome made Zero Point Energy, it was released into the air and the toys absorbed it. |
Why do toys need humans and what's up with Buzz's amnesia?
The toys go to extreme lengths to make sure that their owner is happy,
as this loyalty and love is linked to their survival. In Toy Story 2, Jessie
panics at the thought of being isolated and locked away in storage. Stinky Pete
is considered evil because his isolation has led to the deterioration of his well-being.
Why do you think Stinky Pete and Jessie were so obsessed with being given to
the museum? At a museum, they would be loved and appreciated forever, giving
them eternal life.
You are probably wondering what’s up with Buzz’s amnesia? In both Toy Stories we see that Buzz has amnesia. When the other toys first meet him, Buzz doesn’t think he is a toy. If he doesn’t know he is a toy however, how does he know to play dead when Andy is around? Also, this condition isn’t unique to Buzz, as all the other Buzz Lightyear toys do the exact same thing. There are many theories going around that Buzz Lightyear toys are actually products of BnL. They are programmed to think they are real but this programming is completely overridden, when Buzz makes friends with Woody and accept who he is. The aliens from Pizza Planet are the same. They are programmed to worship the claw. |
