How does a Bug's Life fit in the Pixar Theory?
What is a Bug's Life about?
This movie was Pixar’s second and was a movie about bugs.
This movie actually derived from Aesop’s fable, The Ant and the Grasshopper.
The movie is about an ant named Flik. He’s just an ant working for an island
colony, which is subject to the demands of evil grasshoppers. Every spring, the
grasshoppers arrive and collect the harvest, which is collected by ants. Back
to Flik. He’s a special ant who has a bad reputation for overthinking his place
in life. His crazy inventions earn him the love of every other ant in the colony.
He carelessly causes a mishap that destroys the food the ants collected, which
angered the grasshoppers. Thanks to Flik, the ants have to scrape up all the
food they can for winter, which will almost certainly lead to starvation.
To fix his mistake, Flik sends out on an adventure to find warrior bugs that will protect the colony, allowing the ants to keep the harvested food for themselves. He comes across a group of circus bugs, wrongfully believing they are warriors. The circus bugs also misunderstand the arrangement, thinking that they’re being hired for a show not a war. They come to the colony with Flik but once they figure out what they are really going to be used for, the circus bugs try to leave. However, Flik convinces them to stay. Their plan is to release a fake bird on the leader of the grasshoppers but the ants get exiled because the grasshoppers found out about their plan. |
Why are there no animals?Why
is there no other animals apart from bugs and birds? We don’t see any humans,
dogs, horses, cats etc. You know what other Pixar movie only shows birds and
bugs? Wall-E. We see a cockroach living on Earth and some birds illustrated in
the end credits. If you watch the birds closely in the movie, you will notice
that they are more primal but the bugs are more intelligent. Why do we see all
these amazing abilities displayed by animals and bugs? Well it’s because we are
not seeing a normal version of Earth. We are seeing the reconstructed Earth,
where insects (in the animal kingdom) are the dominant species. Basically, they
are more advanced than other animals.
